In the mid 1960’s my husband and I were newly married and had a small baby. He was then Vice President of Communications Workers of America in Covina, CA, working at (then) General Telephone Company. We gathered up baby items, food, clothing and furniture to donate to the farm workers who were on strike, plus we made a point of educating others about the strike and boycott against eating grapes. Many years later I had the honor of hearing Caesar Chavez speak at an assembly of students at UC Santa Barbara. I was so proud of his accomplishments and remembered that although we had little to give we donated what we could to make the UFW a reality!
