Years ago the boycott on table grapes was started. This was a small way I could support the workers who fought for better wages and working conditions. I told everyone I knew to stop buying fresh grapes. Later came organic foods, pricey but healthier. I tried to buy them whenever I could because I knew that the men and women harvesting them weren’t exposed to poisons while they worked. Other than a few donations as I can afford them, at least I can tailor my shopping habits to line up with the UFW’s goals of fairness and respect.
