"comrades in arms"

While a member of Vietnam Veterans Against the War in Santa Barbara in the early and mid 70’s, I would take part in picketing at local Safeway stores, plus the usual boycott of iceberg lettuce and table grapes. One day, after meeting with comrades at La Casa de lka Raza, we trekked to Guadalupe. We tried to get farmworkers to leave the fields, but sheriff’s deputies tear-gassed us. We returned to thye union hall for an awesome meal, fellowship and the joint singing of We Shall Overcome in Spanishy—-definitely a highlight in my lifelong participation in progressive movements.
