I was inspired to write a children’s book about child farm workers based partly on my own experience as a child farm worker in the San Joaquin Valley. Writing The Marble Harvest has been a very rewarding experience for me as it has allowed me to reconnect with the UFW and my farm working roots. I have been amazed when reading to children in Bakersfield, Parlier, Los Angeles, Pasadena, and other places how many children and teachers still raise their hands when I ask how many of them have experienced working in the fields. I see how much progress the UFW has achieved over the years since I was a child farm worker, but I also see how much more still needs to be done. I am so proud to support the good work that the UFW is doing.
