I remember the early days of the grape workers strike, and later the lettuce workers strike.
In one of these, the Dept. of Defense, under Robert Dole, bought up all the produce in order to break the strike.
The perseverance of the workers under the leadership of Cesar Chavez was incredible.
Also, during one of these, I remember going into the back of local supermarkets to, I think, check that they weren’t hiding scab produce.
