I was 5 years old in 1969 when my Grandmother took me to my first UFW rally near or in Calexico California. We were a multigenerational family of migrant farmworkers and my Grandmother was there to support improved working conditions and decent wages for farmworkers. She was the first in our family to become a member of the UFW and years later she gave me her membership card which I treasure to this day. She passed on many years ago but the legacy of continuing to support decent working conditions and pay for farmworkers lives on in our family. Due to the work of the UFW, I was able to complete my education up to a Masters degree. This I owe to Cesar Chavez and the work of the UFW.
