LEARNING OF THE FARM WORKER MOVEMENT AND WORKING WITH CESAR

As a student at Unity Catholic High School, thanks to my teacher, MaryJane Schram, I first learned about the plight of the farm workers and the United Farm Workers of America…when my teacher invited a staff member of the UFW to speak to our class in Chicago, IL.  i immediately supported the lettuce boycott against Red Coach Lettuce and Jewel foods and tried to learn all I could about the movement and it’s leader, Cesar Chavez.
After finishing high school and dropping out of college after one year, I applied to work with the UFW…interviewed and hired by Irv Hirschenbaum and worked in the boycott office in Chicago, IL with Frank Ortiz.  I am still a supporter and have encouraged my daughter and granddaughter to also support farm workers.  Si se puede!
