My 1970s activism with UFW

I helped turn away shoppers at a Safeway store in the hispanic community of central-south downtown San Jose in 1973, as part of the UFW boycott, and it went out of business soon afterward. In 1972, I worked with the farmworkers in their opposition to Prop.22 and support of George McGovern to register over 1000 voters, and I won an award from the UFW for registering so many voters, mostly in East San Jose. Later as a substitute teacher in San Jose, students were impressed when we were studying a textbook with Cesar Chavez, and I mentioned to them that I had met him and worked with UFW.
