In Kansas City, Missouri, in the 60’s or early 70’s, I helped distribute fliers with “boycott grapes” in front of one of the grocery store chains. Cesar Chavez was there and I was able to speak to him. I told him that I was so dissappointed that the Catholic Bishops did not come out in support of this boycott. He, very calmly said that if they knew and understood the injustice, they would support it. This was so indicative of his peaceful resistance. It was an inspiration to me.
