While I was a student at SUNY/Buffalo (1968-1972) I was the founder/president of the Puerto Rican Student Organization (PODER), an organization that sponsored several events in support of Cesar Chavez and the boycotts. As part of that event, we paid for Cesar Chavez to sent several speakers to address and educate the Buffalo community about the boycott issues. After that PODER donated money to local farmworkers to help with their daily living expenses. We also protested and demanted better living conditions for New York State farmworkers, which included mostly Puerto Ricans and Mexicans in North Collins and other parts of Erie County. We also sponsored and purchase recreational supplies and equipment for the farmworkers. Part of our farmworkers’ activities were covered in the local Buffalo Newspaper.
