I was a Chicano kid in a Junior High school in East San Jose when my political and social justice awareness of the campesino movement took hold. When I was 12 years old in 1969, I also started working seasonally in the fields and orchards throughout Santa Clara County to help my family out. Throughout the years we picketed, marched and boycotted grapes to help the farm workers. My wife and I did not eat grapes for decades. I have always told my kids that thanks to the UFW we know have generations of Chicano’s who never had to work in the fields! Si Se Puede!
