Tell us what you did
to help Cesar's cause

From 1970 to 1978 I was President of the Los Angeles City Firefighters union; United Firefighters of Los Angeles City (UFLAC), IAFF-AFL-CIO, Local 112.  I was inspired by Cesar’s strength and courage in starting the table grape boycott and published reports of his struggle in our Newsletter, The Los Angeles Firefighter.  Additionally, my Executive Board and I collected canned goods and donations and drove them up to Delano to deliver them to Cesar at his union Office; La Paz.  I will never forget his welcome.  When I retired as UFLAC President, Cesar sent a signed UFW-AFL-CIO flag to my dinner delivered by his top aide in Los Angeles.  I also served on the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor with Dolores Huerta and often spoke to her about the struggles of the UFW.  Cesar inspired me and helped me understand solidarity among union brothers and sisters.  The flag he sent me is among my most cherished possessions.
