Tell us what you did
to help Cesar's cause

"Those were good days!"

My name is jerry gaxiola. My family lived in Bakersfield and Arvin CA. back in the mid to late 70’s. My family always supported and attended many of the rallies the UFW had and were at the picket lines at the vineyards of Kern county. I always loved seeing the caravan of cars with the UFW flags waving out the windows! I even made my own flag which i still have. My dad was a methodist minister and my mom worked at K-mart and i realize, we were pretty good. We realized that we had to do what we could do for the cause,La Causa. We did what we could do. I remember seeing Cesar Chavez at the Arvin high school auditorium and the chant of HUELGA,HUELGA! And the clapping of hands with that great accelerated beat. I recall being in the back seat of my families car and we were driving to monterey and driving past a UFW picket at a strawberry field. By chance,?? I had my flag with me and when I saw the Flags and picket lines, I lowered my window and flew my flag!  The people cheered and it felt good! Viva La Causa!! Always.
