"When we were young in the Rio Grand Valley"

My husband and I were a young couple with one child in the late 60s.  The UFW was marching from the Rio Grande to Austin to meet with Governor John Connally at the Capitol.  We met the farm workers there at the Capitol with signs in our hands, inspired by their long march in the Texas heat.  Golfrey Connally, the Governor’s brother was there also with sign waving and voice raised in the chant to persuade John to meet with leaders to talk about better working conditions and better pay.

Thirty years later I was privileged to meet with Cesar Chavez in Spokane WA.

We have been members of the UFW, my husband, Bob Stevenson and I, all these years and continue to be inspired by your work and committed work for justice.
